Billboard is reporting that Apple has hired Elliott Peters, who was senior vice president and the head of digital legal affairs at Warner Music Group. There he managed the company’s legal team that worked with iTunes and MobileMe in Europe.
According to an internal memo obtained by Billboard, Peters is taking on the role of corporate attorney director for iTunes Europe and Internet services, based in Luxembourg, where he will manage the European legal team for iTunes and MobileMe services. He’s been with WMG since 2000.
If I had to guess, Apple hired Peters to assist their effort to move iTunes more toward the cloud. Music labels, including Warner Music Group, have reportedly dismissed the idea of allowing their content on a cloud-based service.
This is going to get interesting.
