The universal Elements app ($4.99, initial iPhone review here) was updated yesterday with some new Markdown capabilities (for web writers), a new mono-spaced font, and many technical fixes that I can barely understand.
The app is now a little more responsive on my 3GS, but still slows down drastically when I attempt a text search (I have about 650 notes of varying sizes). Unfortunately, either this version (or the last v1.5 update) has a strange bug that prevents me from creating any new documents. When I try to make a new file in the root Elements folder, the app ends up telling me that “A file exists with that name already”. New files are entitled “Untitled [x]” by default, but a search of my Elements folder result in no such file name, so I’m really not sure what’s going on.
I’m not all vicious complaining, though. I really like the changes to the note view in these most recent updates. The icons along the bottom bar are very, very slick, and the app feels a lot better for them. In fact, they’re so nice that they make the “new folder” and “new notes” on the main screen look like child’s play.
I’m thinking we’ll see some new icons and a similar shade applied to the list screen in a future update so that Elements looks a bit more uniform…but I’m hoping that the developers at Second Gear can fix this strange “duplicate file” bug first. 🙂
