Calvetica 3.0 for iPhone: speed increase, new week view, and “knife fight pink”?

How did we get here so quickly? Calvetica 1.x was released around mid-August, if I remember correctly. Calvetica 2.0 hit the App Store in early September . It’s now late November and here we are at Calvetica Calendar 3.0 ($2.99) , with a few new features, yet another icon change, and the option to choose “knife fight pink” as a colour for the Today screen. Very nice.

I’ve been playing with the new version for a few minutes and have found it to be markedly faster than before. This isn’t really stressed in the change notes, but the developers do write a bit about it in their latest blog post. Basically, the fine folks at Mysterious Trousers see v3.0 as a “Snow Leopard” type of release, which addresses many speed and stability that (apparently) plagued earlier versions of the app. I’m not sure if it’s the latest iOS 4.2 release, Calvetica 3.0, or both, but the app is definitely flying along now.

But this release isn’t all about speed either. There are new options to add attendees, choose a calendar when creating an event, as well as use the default Events editor, instead of Calvetica’s custom-made editor.

There is also an actual “week view” in v3.0, which shows the days of the week in grid format with everything vertically oriented.

I’m not sure how much I’ll use this, but I certainly find it more useful than the landscape agenda view (which is still accessible with a top in the upper-right corner while in landscape mode).

All in all, this seems like a fantastic new release, so hats off to the devs at Mysterious Trousers for their efforts (or should that be pants off?).
