I’m Alex Jordan, and Here Are My Top Five iOS Apps

Screen shot 2010-12-13 at 9.35.54 PM.pngHello everyone. I’m Alex Jordan, one of the new authors here at iSource. I thought I’d break the ice by telling you the top five iOS apps I can’t live without. So, let’s jump right in.

5: Instagram

Instagram is a unique social network, that as far as I can tell, stems solely from an iOS app. There is no website to go to, no other clients to access the service except for the official Instagram app.

What is Instagram? Well, you take pictures, apply filters (or not), and post them, and view other’s photos. Like any other social network, you can comment on other’s posts, or “like” them. Think of it as “Facebook, but only for pictures.” On the surface it seems a little pointless, I’ll admit. However, you really should give it a try. It’s free, and easy to sign up.

4: Pandora Radio

Surprise, surprise, Pandora Radio made the list. Yeah, Pandora has been around awhile, but only recently has it become useful to me. Before iOS 4, you had to leave Pandora running, and you couldn’t do anything else with your device, to listen to it’s huge library of free music. Now, you can keep the app running in the background while you answer emails and surf the web, making this little app that much more appealing. Of course, Pandora Radio is a free service that isn’t just limited to iOS devices, so, feel free to sign up and listen anywhere.

3: Twitter for iPhone/iPad

Yeah, here I go again. Another social networking app. But, I love Twitter, I have a lot of fun with it. It’s true that there are an overwhelming number of Twitter apps on the App Store, but I’ve only ever found a few that I liked. Originally, I used Twitterific for the longest time, and I still think it’s good, but Tweetie came along and changed everything for me. Tweetie and it’s creator were bought out by Twitter, and now Tweetie is Twitter for all iOS devices.

With that long introduction out of the way I can now tell you why I like Twitter for iPhone/iPad. First off, it’s clean. Especially on the iPhone. The iPad version is a little gimmicky, but it too is clean and to the point. To the point, Twitter is the cleanest, most direct, and most uncluttered feeling of the Twitter clients available for iOS devices. If you use Twitter you owe it to yourself to check out Twitter for iPhone/iPad. Besides, it’s free.

2: 1Password
This app isn’t nearly as much fun as the others on this list, but it’s a must-have for anyone with more than two passwords to keep track of. 1Password is a utility that can generate strong passwords to be used for website username/password logins. It can also be used to store all of those different passwords. You only have to remember one password, to access all of your other passwords. Make sense? Anyway, it makes life so much easier.

1: The Incident
Yeah, my #1 app for iOS is a game. The Incident is a retro-styled game wherein the here (you) have to avoid obstacles that are mysteriously falling from the sky. It’s a well made, thoughtful adventure. Sure, you can blow through it in a few hours, but you’ll keep coming back for more. They’re always expanding the features as well. For instance, a recent update allows users to connect their iPad to their TV, and use their iPhone/iPod touch as a controller. In short, this allows you to play the game on your TV like a console game system. Very cool.

The Incident costs on $1.99 for one version that runs on both the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch natively. It’s a lot of bang for your buck.

So, there you have it. These are my top five third-party iOS apps that I just can’t live without.
