Engadget is reporting that they have uncovered evidence that suggests DirectTV’s “NFL Sunday Ticket” package may be coming to the new Apple TV (and other, similar TV-top devices).
An excerpt from Engadget:
According to a tipster, some of the questions asking about potential pricing setups indicated the digital version would be available via currently unsupported devices including internet connected Blu-ray players & TVs, “game machines,” Apple TV, Roku and Boxee.
If this deal fallows through, this would make TV-top devices like the Apple TV that much more appealing to consumers. This feature would likely show up as another menu feature, much like Netflix does at the moment. It appears that this feature would only be available to Direct TV subscribers. That said, it does look like DirectTV is adding a “Weekend” option wherein a customer can pay $19.99 per weekend they choose to subscribe.
Just think how many more customers Direct TV might pick up that are only buying this package through their Apple TV on the weekend. I’d buy it.
