Confirmed: Apple Sold 1 Million Apple TVs

In a report from All Things Digital, Apple has indeed confirmed that they have sold over 1 million new Apple TVs since last September when they were introduced. Oddly, Apple has put out a press release stating that they were approaching the 1 million mark and would be surpassing it soon. Apple normally doesn’t do such a thing.
From the press release:

Last Tuesday Apple said it expected sales of its next generation Apple TV to top one million units before Christmas. Today the company confirmed they did just that.

Perhaps they put the release out because everyone wanted to get home for the holidays, or perhaps they released the statement then as a counter-attack against the news that other competing products had been doing well this season. No matter, selling 1 million of anything is a pretty good “hobby” as Apple likes to call the Apple TV.
