9to5Mac has released another report with several images claiming to show that the next-generation iPad will have a flat back, tapered edges, a back camera, and a new port on the side of the case opposite the volume control buttons. It’s unclear at this time if this port will make it to the final product, or even what it’s going to be used for if it does.
Takes this with a grain of salt however, because these images reportedly come from a Asian case manufacturer. They’ve been known to get things wrong in the past. However, as I’ve said before, if they’re willing to pour money into mockups then they have at least some insider information.
So, if I had to guess based on the mounting evidence, the next iPad will have a flat back and tapered sides very similar to the current iPod touch. I’ll also wager that it will have two cameras-bath a back and a front-facing FaceTime camera.
Perhaps Apple will build in an extra USB port, for extra connectivity that will allow Apple to further position this device as a computer, or at least a notebook, replacement. However, I’m still skeptical about this extra port. To me, it would be a very “un-Apple” move.
