Businessweek is reporting that Apple will be introducing the Verizon-capable iPhone after this January’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The report goes on to suggest that the announcement will be made sometime before February 14th.
Of course, the article goes on to speculate the impact that the Verizon announcement will have in the marketplace, specifically AT&T’s bottom line. They point to the hassle of switching carriers and high service termination fees as a deterrent for mass exodus from AT&T’s floundering network.
However, I feel that this will be a huge announcement. I would wager that there are a lot of Verizon customers that would have loved to have purchased an iPhone, but opted for an Android phone instead due to the lack of availability. Additionally, there are surely some who are holding out for an Verizon iPhone before signing up to any network. In short, I suspect there is a big market for a Verizon/CDMA capable iPhone. It’s just a matter of time.
