
Apple today, during market hours, passed $300 billion in market capitalization. You don’t have to know what that is exactly for it to sound impressive. Anyway, the short explanation of market capitalization is this- take the number of stocks currently in circulation and multiply it by the current selling price. That’s market capitalization.
This news is even more impressive when you consider that only last March did Apple pass $200 billion in market capitalization. In fact, Apple’s stock prices did so well in 2010, that their market capitalization passed, Wal-Mart and Microsoft to become the second largest company by market cap in the world. Apple only trails Exxon Mobile who has a healthy lead at $368 billion.
