Engadget is reporting that a case manufacturer exhibiting at CES, has created a mockup of what they believe the next-generation iPad will look like. They even made it out of pressed aluminum, so we get the full affect.
It [the case] was so intriguing that we asked to put our own iPad inside, which is when we were told it wouldn’t fit, since the case was designed for the next iPad. Indeed, the mockup that we found inside the case was a tad bit slimmer than the first-gen iPad, with a taper leading to the edges that reminds us of the iPod touch, and a home button positioned nearer the bottom edge. We found all the typical cutouts on the case, and their mirror on the machined mockup, including a large square for the speaker.
Ok, so it sounds like they built this mockup based on rumors that have been circulating around the web. But, just like I’ve been saying all along, if case manufacturers are actually spending money on prototypes and other things of the sort, they are at least taking some of these rumors seriously, and thus, we can be slightly more assured that these rumors are indeed accurate. Look no further than some of the leaked images for cases built for iPod before the iPod ship. Plus, some recent images depicting cases for an iPad with a very similar form-factor have been pulled from circulation.

In short, I suspect the new iPad will very much look like the images above.
