Weather HD for iPad is easily my favorite weather app for the iPad. It gives a quick rundown of the basic current weather conditions and forecast info, and offers a beautiful UI. So without even taking a moment to properly look at the App Store description details, I grabbed Weather HD for Mac in the shiny new Mac App Store today.
Sadly, I am an eediot for not taking a closer look first. This Weather HD is not by the same developers who produce the excellent iPad app of the same name. It is published by the folks who make an iPad app called simply Weather – which is an iPad app that sucks in my opinion. It offers very little functionality and a horrible UI. If I had taken even a moment to look at the Mac App Store page for this one, I would have realized that the Mac version offers the same awful combination.
So yes, heads-up. Unless you like weather apps that look awful and do little, stay away from Weather HD for Mac.
I’m not sure it’s such a great thing that developers can register app names in the Mac App Store that are already used in the iOS App Store by someone else.
