It’s just after lunch time on a monday and that can only mean one thing (besides indigestion): it’s time to catch up on some a few interesting Mac App Store articles. I did a bit of reading over the weekend and thought I’d share some of what I came across through Twitter and some ace googling (“Mac App Store impressions”):
- The first link is to an article by Mac (and life) enthusiast Shawn Blanc, who shares his general thoughts on how the Mac App Store (MAS) is simplifying OS X. Shawn also linked to this Daring Fireball piece from 2009 (obviously pre-App Store) about how Mac apps should be distributed, but I’ve lost track of his original tweet.
- The second set is from John Gruber and Tim Morgan on the Mac UI and some of the new designs on the App Store (especially Twitter). Morgan wants to hold on to a more classic and uniform Mac look, whereas Gruber thinks the classic Apple Human Interface Guide (HIG) is dead.
- The last set of links come straight from developers and how they’re talking to customers about the changes that the Mac App Store have brought about. Sophia Teutschler has been getting some serious flak for moving CoverSutra (a $5 iTunes controller) to the Mac App Store and has been fending off some vicious commenters ever since . Meanwhile, the developers of Pixelmator (now also a MAS exclusive) have posted an explanation of why they think you’ll want to pay $30 to buy Pixelmator on the MAS, even if you already own it. I ended up pouncing on Pixelmator again because I use it daily and am curious enough about the upcoming version 2.0 to want a cheaper upgrade.
