Here’s another interesting bit from Engadget’s hands-on impressions of the Verizon iPhone:
The only real physical difference we can find are those tweaked CDMA-compatible antennas running around the edge — four in all, placed symmetrically and bumping down the volume / mute buttons.
The first thing I thought about after reading that sentence was my iPhone case. There’s really only about 1mm of breathing room between the volume rocker and the plastic of the case itself, and even that can feel a little tight at times.
Granted, I use a 3GS and not an iPhone 4, but the point is that good iPhone cases and skins are cut very precisely. So, although it hasn’t exactly been spelled out, I’m guessing that the new Verizon iPhone may require slightly modified versions of current iPhone 4 cases, simply because of this minor button repositioning.
In other words: I’m speculating that the cases you own right now may not fit the CDMA version of your favourite Apple smartphone. We’ll see.
