MacNotes.de (via MacRumors) is reporting that the next-generation iPad will be released on either April 2nd or April 9th. The report claims that this iPad will follow last year’s staggered release scheduled. That is, the new iPad will be released in the U.S. first, and follow internationally in July. They also claim that Apple is the only company that will distribute the iPad at first. Other retailers such as Best Buy and Wal-Mart will have to wait until October before they can sell it.
Reliable sources told us about the upcoming launch of the Apple iPad 2: the first or second Saturday in April will see the first sales of Apples new tablet. The iPad 2 will sell US-only for three months, and Apple Store-only for up to half a year. In July, more countries will follow. Walmart, Best Buy and Co. maybe have to wait until October until they are allowed to sell Apples new tablets.
The report also claims that the new iPad will have a USB port, two cameras, and a “retina display”, which reportedly won’t have the same pixel density as it’s iPhone and iPod touch counterparts.
In my view, the release timeframe seems right. However, I disagree with the idea that Apple will not be releasing internationally at the same time as the United States. Perhaps not every country will get it at the same time, but I think the majority will. Apple has ramped up production, and thus their capabilities to produce the devices, I think they can meet demand.
I also believe Apple will have the next iPad in many of the same retailers that currently carry the iPad, such as Target, Wal-Mart, and Best Buy. Perhaps not immediately after launch, but very soon after, like we see each fall with the iPod refresh.
