Gaming and the Mac App Store

If you’re a gamer, you’ve probably heard about COD4 Modern Warfare (from 2007), and maybe even Braid (2008). However, if your only source for video games is your Mac, then you probably haven’t had a chance to actually play these titles…well, until now.

Both games should have a lot more eyeballs on them now that they’re both on the front page of the Mac App Store. COD4 is still looking rather pricey at $50 (the PC version currently costs $30 on Steam), but Braid is being offered at half of its normal price ($5 as opposed to $10).

I’m admittedly a little disappointed with COD4’s pricing, but I’m glad to see both it and Braid in the Mac App Store’s spotlight. If games like this can take off on the MAS — especially in tandem with Valve’s Steam store —  it could mean great things for gaming and gaming support on the Mac. After all, it’s big blockbuster titles like COD4 that tend to garner big time gamer attention, so it should only be a matter of time before we see more ports like these.

I still keep a desktop PC around to do the majority of my gaming, but I’d embrace a future where I could do all of my work and play on one a 15″ MacBook Pro (you know, the one I don’t own yet…).
