I really want to file this post under “D’oh!”, but we don’t have any such category (yet). The excellent (replace with interesting if you don’t like it) Twitter app from the Mac App Store has been updated again. The only changes are:
- improved live stream
- fixed reply-all behaviour (I barely use this, so I have no comments)
- fixed DM threading
And, of course, yet another new Twitter icon.
If you don’t like this one, many people on Twitter are sharing links about how you can restore either of the previous icon, and it’s nice to know that the older icons are actually packaged right into this release (thanks, @chrisherbert1).
So if you want to restore either of the old icons, make sure you have Admin rights on your account.
- Once you’re sure you have admin powers, simply go into Applications, right click on Twitter (Show Package Contents) and navigate to the Contents/Resources folder.
- Once in there, look for Icon.icns (you should see Icon 2 and Icon 3 right underneath).
- Delete or rename the default Icon.icns (the angled, shiny blue one)
- Copy Icon 2 or 3 to your desktop. This step is simply so you can change the name of the file to “Icon.icns”, which is the file that Twitter will read to figure out what icon to use. You’re dragging the file to the desktop first because I wasn’t able to rename the files within the Contents/Resources folder.
- Once the icon has been renamed, simply drag and drop it right back into the Contents/Resources folder. You’ll probably be asked for an admin password (the password for your User account on your Mac). Enter said password like a pro.
- Re-launch Twitter and you’ll see the new icon.
Done! 🙂
