Oh boy does this look cool. It’s TankBot, from Desk Pets, – a robotic toy that can be controlled using an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad. Even cooler – it’s said to cost less than $20.
It’s set to make its debut at a New York toy fair next month and has a planned release date of sometime in June. Here’s a little more on how it will work:
You’ll be able to control TankBot via an app and the accelerometer on your phone, which will recognize movements and translate them over to the robot. Because TankBot uses Infrared, a sensor will have to be plugged into the headphone socket on your device, a solution often seen used on iPhone A/V remote controls.
Here’s another little bit of TankBot goodness:
TankBot will be available in several different colors, and each will have its own frequency – meaning desk battles!
My daughter was looking over my shoulder when I started drafting this post yesterday afternoon. She is often curious as to what I’m writing about, but this time I could hear in here voice that her interest level was higher than usual when she saw the TankBot photo and asked ‘What’s that?’. When I told her what it is, her interest level went through the ceiling and she told me quite adamantly ‘I WANT ONE’. I told her ‘me too girl’. So yeah, sign us up for the pre-order queue. ![]()
