As Fortune Tech pointed out in an article yesterday, the App Store has managed to hit the 10 billion downloads mark in just 31 months – a milestone it took the iTunes Music Store ten years to reach. Even taking into account the amount of free and inexpensive apps, that seems like a hell of an impressive pace.
They also shared an interesting graph – from the folks at 148apps.biz – that shows the breakdown of app category distribution in the App Store. Books leads the way with a little under 17%, followed by Games at almost 14.5%, and then Entertainment, Education, and Lifestyle to round out the Top 5.
