AT&T Offering Unlimited Data Plans to Some iPhone Customers

att_sim_unlock_codes.jpgThe Associated Press is reporting that AT&T is very quietly offering some iPhone customers the ability bump their capped data plans up to an unlimited one, in an attempt to keep them from taking their business to Verizon. Because, as we found out today, Verizon will be offering unlimited data as part of their iPhone plan.

Specifically, this offer is being aimed at customers that were formerly on AT&T’s unlimited data plans, but had switched back down to one of AT&T’s new, cheaper capped data plans that were introduced alongside the iPhone 4 last summer. Now, in an attempt to keep customers, AT&T is offering them unlimited data once again. Funny considering that AT&T had previously told these customers that they would never be able to switch back to their unlimited plans once they moved to the capped plans.

Verizon Wireless will start offering the iPhone on Feb. 10 with a draw that AT&T no longer offers to new subscribers: a plan with unlimited data usage. But The Associated Press has learned that some AT&T iPhone users on limited plans won’t need to move to Verizon for unlimited data.

In an unadvertised loophole, AT&T Inc. has allowed subscribers who have had an unlimited data plan in the past to switch back. That includes anyone who had an iPhone before June, when the limited plans took effect.

I was waiting for something like this. That is, AT&T publicly cries that they aren’t panicked that the iPhone is coming to Verizon’s network, yet internally they’re very panicked. This to me proves that they’re actually panicked.
