
Business Insider has pointed out that in Netflix’s recent quarterly earnings report, that the new Apple TV introduced last September has now surpassed the iPad as the most popular Apple product used to stream Netflix content.

The devices with large installed bases – meaning Windows and Mac laptops, Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox, and Nintendo Wii – are the most popular devices for watching instantly from Netflix. AppleTV has done very well for us, and in just four months has passed the also-growing iPad in Netflix viewing hours.
Ok, so Apple has sold nearly 15 million iPads, and 1 million Apple TVs, which is good sales for a set-top box. To my mind, this shows that a significant but smaller proportion of iPad owners are streaming Netflix content, but the vast majority of Apple TV owners are streaming Netflix. Not a shocking revelation, but it shows that Netflix is a big selling point for the new Apple TV.
