Well the day is finally here. You know the one we’ve all been waiting for… THE REBIRTH OF THE NEWSPAPER!!! YAY!!! It’s finally here.
Wait. You haven’t been waiting with baited breath for this day in which we get to start giving our money back to old media moguls like Rupert Murdoch again? I can’t believe it. How can you not be so excited you can barely contain it? This is like Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day and your birthday all rolled into one splendid event!
As you might be able to tell, there was a tiny hint of sarcasm in that last little section. If you’ve been reading a lot of blogs around lately though you’d think this whole “The Daily” thing was the second coming. I don’t get it.
In today’s connected world we’ve got things like Digg, Mashable, twitter, RSS, and so many more ways to get news and opinions that I just don’t get the logic in expecting your “iPad only newspaper” to be able to succeed with its once a day updates. By the time a traditional once a day publication actually updates, I’ve seen the news in 15 different places and I’m likely sick of hearing about it. Or in the case of multi-day events (protests in Iran / Egypt, war in Pakistan) I’ve seen the latest news and read the opinions by the time the daily news folks have hit the publish button.
With all that said, I’ll be giving The Daily a fair shake over the next two free weeks – THANK YOU VERIZON! – to see if they can earn my $0.99/week $39.99 per year. What about you? Are you going to give old media on new platform a fair shake? Or are you sticking with your current method of news and opinions?
