Yuck: Screenshots of iOS games being sold as wallpapers on Android Market

Believe it or not, the headline above has already been toned down. The fact of the matter is that “developer” TUQsoft has been selling screenshots of popular iOS games on the Android Market in a manner that makes it seem like you’re buying the full games (despite the fact that many of these titles haven’t been ported yet). If you’re already wary of rip-offs on the Android Market, you might know to carefully read the text description of each app, but even these text descriptions, like this one for Modern Warfare LiveW, are a little misleading:

**MODERN COMBAT 2 – NOW ON ANDROID**50% OFF ALL NOVEMBER, GET IT NOW!!!

Amazing Live Wallpaper of Modern Combat 2 now for your android device!

For use: Press menu key, then “Wallpapers” and “Live wallpapers” to choose it.

For better performance, set size option to “Big” (Default/Original)

The first two lines are obviously meant to look like the game is on sale, but the last three lines show that the “app” is really just a wallpaper (as do the screenshots, if you look carefully). The thing is that many people aren’t used to the idea of developers trying to trick them, so there are quite a number of very unhappy customers:

I’m not going to be smug about this and say that this would never happen on the App Store (I think it very well could), but at least these people are only out a dollar. Shame on TUQsoft for playing such a low and mean-spirited trick, though.
