I have started looking around and seen jailbreaks that included my itouch second gen. Wish me luck I’m going in. Oh p.s. I have scraped my way from the pits of apples trenches with no power button on my 16 gb itouch 2g. I have finally made it from 2.2.1 to 4.2.1 by way of 2.2.1, to 3.0, 3. 1 2 to 3.1.3 jailbroke, with no dfu mode lol, crazy but activator is th3 s41t’ll!!! Just use Google and look for: iPhone 4.2.1 ipsw and you’ll find some good resources.

I had my iPhone jailbroken for about a year with blackra1n. Last night I restored my phone to upgrade to the 4.2.1 software, with the intention of re-jailbreaking with blackra1n. However, blackra1n didn’t seem to work, so I am looking at a;ternatives.

I can pretty much understand your instructions. However, I cannot find the firmware update file on my macbook, as I did not download the actual file. I updated to 4.2.1 through iTunes.

I don’t know much about all this stuff. Got any tips?

Then I read this about this new release of GreenPois0n jailbreak release, installed it twice, and it installed Cydia on the 2nd attempt. Might not need to go back to Redsn0w I think.
