Verizon iPhone Equipped with World-Mode ‘Gobi’ Chip From Qualcomm

9to5Mac is reporting on the finds of iFixyouri who just finished their Verizon iPhone teardown. They found that the CDMA Verizon iPhone is equipped with Qualcomm’s “Gobi” MDM6600 chip, which could offer functionality for both GSM and CDMA networks. iFixit has also found the same chip in their model as well.

To my understanding, the only reason the Verizon iPhone 4 couldn’t be used with a GSM network such as AT&T’s is that the device does not have a SIM card slot.

In other words, expect one iPhone model this summer when Apple refreshes the line.
