Free Access to ‘The Daily’ Extended to February 28th, iOS 4.3 Delay to Blame

The Daily, a newspaper built specifically for the iPad, has quietly extended it’s trial period, from it’s original two-week period, until February 28th. Why the extension? Well, it’s not because Newcorp just wants to be nice. No, instead it’s because Apple hasn’t publicly released iOS 4.3, which will bring support for recurring, in-app subscriptions- something The Daily plans to use.

The Daily was introduced on February 2nd, and carried a two-week trial period that was sponsored by Verizon. Thus, it was widely expected that the public release of iOS 4.3 would be introduced sometime within this two-week trial period, seeing as The Daily would like to get their subscription services online and begin to make money as soon as possible. That didn’t pan out.

So, with an extension to the trial period, we can expect the iOS 4.3 update sometime by the 28th of this month.
