QuickCursor 2.0 for Mac: instant access to your favourite text editors

QuickCursor 2.0 ($4.99) isn’t really a new release (it was released alongside the Mac App Store), but my recently rekindled love for WriteRoom (which is strangely absent from the App Store) has brought with it the need for a utility to quickly retrieve text for editing/writing within Writeroom — and that’s really what QuickCursor is all about.

If you’re uncomfortable with the small, confined spaces of most website text entry areas, or want to write e-mails in a more distraction-free environment, then QuickCursor will ensure that your favourite text editor is only a keyboard shortcut away.

All I need to do transfer text from a text field and into WriteRoom is press Shift+Cmd+W, at which point WriteRoom will load up, already filled with the copied text. Once I’m done hacking away at the keyboard, I simply press Cmd+S and my text is pasted right back into the original field. I’m actually still using an old development version of the software (v1.1.6) that supports only WriteRoom, but QuickCursor 2.0 also supports:

  • BBEdit
  • Espresso
  • MacVim
  • Smultron
  • SubEthaEdit
  • TextMate
  • TextWrangler

You can check out the full description for QuickCursor 2.0 on the Mac App Store. You’re also free to wonder, as I do, about why OmmWriter ($4.99)  isn’t on the list of supported apps. Is it rivalry or is the app just difficult support from QuickCursor?
