Picks of the Week

Welcome to our weekly installment of Picks of the Week at iSource where we provide our expanded coverage of Apple accessories and applications  Here we will promote our favorite iPhone, iPad, iPod, Mac and Apple TV related items, as well as bring you occasional tips and tricks.  Hopefully many of our favorite items will also be of interest to you. Please feel free to comment on our selections, and suggest picks of your own.  Check out this week’s picks after the break

IntoNow (v1.0.2)

Picked by: Joe

IntoNow

IntoNow is the cool application with the misleading name.  Simply, think Shazam or SoundHound, but IntoNow works with almost any programming that has aired on television in the last five years.

IntoNow listens to the audio of a TV show or movie and will identify the name (and the episode of a TV show), providing details on the plot, actors, and (when applicable), providing links to iTunes, Netflix, and more – and also letting you share what you’re watching on Facebook or Twitter.  An iPad version is reportedly in the works.

Phoenix Wright (v1.00.01)

Picked by: Thomas

phoenix_wright

My pick of the week is Phoenix Wright ($4.99), which I picked up during the $0.99 Capcom sale. I loved the crap out of this hilarious courtroom game on the Nintendo DS and it’s just as much fun to play on the iPhone. The cases are completely ridiculous and everyone you’re called upon to cross examine is either completely incompetent or an outright liar, but it’s the hilarious exchanges of dialogue and the larger-than-life characters that will keep you entranced for hours on end.

I don’t have any objections to giving this Phoenix Wright iOS port a very hearty recommendation to gamers looking for an involved, highly story-driven gaming experience. I also hope that iSource readers buy it, if only to increase the chances of the three sequels making it to my iPhone.

Just Mobile Upstand for iPad

Picked by: PatrickJ

JustMobileUpstand

The UpStand feels solid and looks great on my desk. It’s ‘engineered from aluminum’ and goes very well with my MacBook Pro and of course with the iPad itself. It’s not too bulky either, so it’s easy to find good spots for it on the desk or elsewhere.

It holds the iPad well in horizontal or vertical positions, with no need for any adjustment or fiddling with the stand when swapping between orientations. It also happily holds the iPad while it’s in a good number of cases that are back-only or have a detachable front cover.
While in the UpStand, the iPad is at an ideal viewing height. Excellent for use as a side / additional display alongside a PC, and excellent for using with a Bluetooth keyboard.
I’m a big fan of iPad stand (possibly too big a fan) and this is my co-favorite, along with the Compass Mobile Stand for when I’m out and about with the iPad.

Smartr  (v1.5)

Picked by: Renkman

Smartr

Smartr is a Twitter client that takes the links from all the tweets of the people you follow, and presents them in an easy to read, elegant format.  Each tweet with a link attached to it is filtered out into your Smartr feed with a thumbnail of the linked picture, and a short description—a sort of page preview.  Other features include

Removes 4sq checkins
Shows page previews instead of links
Formats article for maximum readability on iPhone
Full list support (view, create & follow lists, add/remove members)
Save articles for later reading
Reply, retweet, repost or favorite articles on twitter.
Save articles to Instapaper or ReadItLater
Publish articles to posterous, tumblr or facebook
Email articles to your friends

Other services available include Posterous, Tumblr, Instapaper, and Read it Later.  If you choose, you can also link to Facebook as well.  If you want to look at all your follower’s tweets, instead of just those with links, it’s just a click away at the top center of the page.  Try it out today—it’s free!
