AppleInsider is reporting on the speculation Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo regarding Apple’s iOS line of devices.
First he believes that there will either be a smaller iPad or a larger iPod touch in Apple’s future.
More interestingly however, is that Kuo claims that the “iPad 3” will have a 2048×1536 “Retina” display.
Kuo now claims that iPad 3 will deliver a Retina Display-like quality and resolution doubling to 2048×1536, an enhancement originally thought to make it into the more immediate release of iPad 2.
First off, Apple has flat out denied any interest in a smaller iPad. I doubt a larger iPod touch would be in the works either. They’re just not shooting for the 5-7 inch market at the moment. Get over it.
Secondly, I have no doubt that a higher resolution iPad screen is coming. It’s just a matter of timing. I doubt it happens with the “iPad 2” that is expected to be released in the next few weeks. A third-generation iPad sounds like the right timeframe. However, it’s unclear when that device might be released. John Gruber of Daring Fireball thinks it may arrive as early as September, others believe it will arrive this time next year. All of this is purely speculation at this point, and little evidence has surfaced to support it.
