Overhauled Final Cut Pro Coming in Spring 2011?

final-cut-clapboard.pngTechCrunch is reporting that they have heard that a major new version of Final Cut Pro is just around the corner.

According our very own people familiar with the matter, a small group of video editors were on the Apple campus recently in order to preview the new version of video editing software, which is in the same space as Avid and Adobe Premier. Apparently Apple is still putting the finishing touches on “the biggest overhaul to Final Cut Pro since the original version was created over 10 years ago” and wanted pro user feedback. Emphasis on “pro.”

They claim that there have been changes made all the way through the software. That is, from low-level code, to the user interface.

We’ve heard little in the way of Final Cut Pro since it was last updated in 2007. iMovie, Apple’s consumer-level video editing tool, was updated later that year, then again in the beginning of 2009, and then again late last year. So, a stark contrast in focus can be seen, with product release cycles. That said, a purported email from Steve Jobs stating that the next version of Final Cut Pro “will be awesome.”
