With Apple releasing all sorts of goodies today, they also released more information about the upcoming release of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. Mac OS X Lion was first demoed by Apple last October, with only minimal amounts of information released at that time.
Apple today released a developer preview of Mac OS X Lion, which takes some of the best ideas from iPad and brings them back to the Mac for the eighth major release of the world’s most advanced operating system. Lion features Mission Control, an innovative new view of everything running on your Mac; Launchpad, a new home for all your Mac apps; full screen apps that use the entire Mac display; and new Multi-Touch gestures. Lion also includes the Mac App Store, the best place to discover, install and automatically update Mac apps. The Lion preview is available to Mac Developer Program members through the Mac App Store today, and the final version of Lion will ship to customers this summer.
Yes, Apple really did release a developer preview today. We haven’t heard too much about it as of now, but we’ll keep you updated.
Anyway, Apple outlines some of the new features coming to the release, on their updated Lion page.
– Redesigned Mail that looks very similar to iPad’s Mail app

-Versions, a kind of Time Machine subset that allows you to go back in a document’s history, every single change that has been made, and restore it to a previous state.
-AirDrop allows users to share files with others nearby who are also using AirDrop.
-Resume
-Auto Save, all Apps are automatically saved as you go. Much like apps on the iPad
-Mac OS X Lion Server- Much like I predicted, the Server addition of Mac OS X is no longer a standalone product, but instead included with the consumer version. You can choose to install the Server tools when installing the OS on your machine.
The whole list of features (thus far) can be seen here. Some of these features were announced last October, and some of them are new today. The rumored FileVault even makes an appearance on the list.
Lion is looking like an awesome release.
