Next-Generation iPad with A5 Processor, 512MB RAM , and iOS 5 to be Announced at March 2nd Event

Screen shot 2011-02-22 at 9.28.23 PM.pngAhead of what is believed to be the introduction of the next-generation iPad at next week’s March 2nd event, Engadget is reporting that Apple changed the plans of the iPad at the last minute. That is, Apple decided to pull the high resolution display, and SD card slot from unit production.

Notably, that SD card slot and higher resolution display won’t make it into the new model (the latter we’d been hearing rumblings about for a little while). What’s the cause of the switch? Well our sources weren’t crystal clear on the exact reasons, but the gist of what was explained to us centered around vague “engineering issues” which may have forced some changes at the eleventh hour.

Engadget is doubling down on a few details however. They claim that the next-generation iPad will have an A5 processor, 512MB of RAM , and a FaceTime camera.

They also expect Apple to announce iOS 5 at next week’s event, with a slated release of this Summer.

Count me in with John Gruber. I doubt any of these features were in the works for this iteration of the iPad. The reports we’ve been hearing may have been varying in degrees of accuracy, but Apple’s plan has never changed.
