Bracketron MobileDock Dash Mount Phone Holder
Picked by: Joe
The Bracketron MobileDock Dash Mount Phone Holder is not specifically an iDevice holder, per se, but deserves special mention as a great product that is currently available at an awesome price.
Using a suction cup with a sticky gel base, the holder adheres to pretty much any flat surface – quite securely – and uses the same sticky gel to secure the device to the holder as well (the green circle in the picture above). Despite it being “sticky”, no residue is left on the surface or device, making it ideal for temporary installations.
I use this mount with my iPhone 4 while I am travelling, and have yet to find the car dashboard that it will not fit on securely. This is even more amazing when you conisder that I have a case on my phone that has a pattern of holes on the back – not the ideal surface for the mount to cling to, one would think – and yet it does.
The mount is available at several office supply and electronics stores for $29.99, and is currently selling for $19.99 at Radio Shack.

Death Worm (v1.01)
Picked by: Thomas
Death Worm has been a surprising amount of fun with gameplay that reminds me a lot of Rampage or some sort of Godzilla game. Gameplay is simple: you steer your gigantic death worm around to devour tanks, soldiers, trucks, birds, and cows. Just like all the other simple-but-addictive premises out there, you can easily while away hours of your time playing this blasted little game, trying for just one more helicopter kill or high score.
Screenshots don’t really do this game justice, so I suggest you take at the YouTube trailer here (gotta love that soundtrack).

Poker with Bob (v1.0.1)
Picked by: Brandon
I’ve never been much of a card player (unless it’s Spades) and I’ve definitely never been a poker player, but this one came to us as an email mention a week or so back and I decided to give the light version a go. After playing through the light version a couple times I figured Bob had earned my $0.99. The game play is light hearted, moves fairly quick without a lot of wasted time in animations, and the desire to wipe that smirk off Bob’s face keeps me coming back for more. All in all the game is a lot of fun (albeit Bob can get pretty repetitive in his comments) so if you’re not a pro poker player, you might want to give Poker with Bob a spin. The fun graphics and enjoyable 1-on1 game play really take the pressure out of the game, and let you learn at your own pace.

Hipmunk Flight Search (v1.5)
Picked by: AliciaB
My pick for this week is the debut of the unique search engine for flights worldwide Hipmunk on the iPhone. I’ve been an avid user of the website for a few months since I research flights almost daily for my job as a management coordinator for a globally-operating company. Although I’ve seen slow load times more often than not, the web interface is truly a sight for sore eyes, and goes to show what an innovative UI and creative approach can do for the modern flight researcher.
Hipmunk’s iPhone interface is of course reminiscent of the web version. Enter required details: from, to, dates, fare type and how many people (traveling) and your results are displayed by “agony”, cost, departure time or length of flight, on a visual grid where you can easily gauge the pros and cons of each flight, by stops, price or airline. The step to an iPhone app was only a matter of time and a natural progression, which will hopefully include prices and merchants for European users in the near future. Still, Hipmunk gives us a glimpse of what a hassle-free future of flight booking can look like.

MLB.com At Bat 11
Picked by: PatrickJ
Ah yes, Spring Training has started, Opening Day is only a little over a month away, and the excellent MLB.com At Bat app has been updated for the new season. There are iPhone and iPad versions – both priced at $14.99, which is a bit steep, shame they haven’t done a universal version.
Even so, I’ve installed the iPad version and it looks great. It’s already full of game boxscores and highlights, team news, and tons of good video content. If you’re a big baseball fan, this is a must-have app.
There you have it! Hope you enjoyed this week’s installment of Picks of the week. Please let us know what you think, and share with us some of your favorites.
