Cult of Mac is reporting that, alongside the much-rumored next-generation iPad, Apple will also be introducing a new more robust MobileMe tomorrow at the company’s scheduled media event.
An excerpt:
The Apple staffer, who asked to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, said the new MobileMe service will store music, TV shows, and films that were purchased from the iTunes store. The staffer also said that there was talk inside Apple of being able to upload all your music and videos to the cloud whether it was purchased from iTunes or not. However, they couldnt confirm whether this will be rolled out or not.
The new MobileMe is expected to host user’s iTunes content for them. There of course, have been reports suggesting that all or some of the service will be made free. A report from just a few days ago seemed to back this rumor up, seeing as Apple discontinued the MobileMe retail boxes, and scrubbed them from their site.
Another interesting point in the report:
The Apple staffer declined to give details about the iPad 2 or 3, but said:
“For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about.”
Yeah, we’ve heard this before. That is, Apple will be releasing yet another iPad this September. This “iPad 3” may not be an outright replacement for the one being introduced tomorrow, it does appear it will at least supplement the line.
More of the same of what we’ve heard before really.
Anyway, we’ll see how it all pans out tomorrow. Check back here at iSource for up-to-date coverage.
