Funny. I had just finished complaining about a lack of updates to Notified Pro (back in my MobileNotifier post) when I got wind of a blog post on developer Emilio Pelaez’ blog discussing — surprise, surprise — a new beta for Notified Pro. It’s not out just yet and I think they’re still looking for a repo to host the beta on, but the proposed changes are looking promising.
The homescreen “app” is being moved into Settings, and all notifications will be managed from the pull-down drawer. The settings are also being made a lot clearer and easier to understand, and it looks like we may even be able to dictate where pop-ups show up (on the lockscreen or homescreen). This all sounds great, but I’m also hoping Emilio has had time to play with some of the pop-up plugins for Notified Pro, since they are still stuck in portrait orientation (even if you’re in landscape — argh).
These are definitely some good jailbreak-y times for iOS notifications, though. Between the open source MobileNotifier from Peter Hajas and Emilio Pelaez’ Notified Pro ($2.99), we may see a half-decent notification system hit the iOS this year (and that’s discounting some sort of official notification change from Apple in iOS 5).
[By the way, there’s also a Notified public beta hosted on MacThemes.net, but it’s still pretty rough and doesn’t include the changes from beta 2, so if I were you, I’d just wait a little bit.]
