Oh my goodness. My sister is learning Japanese and has been typing and sending e-mails using the TenKey Japanese keyboard built onto iOS, and it’s thanks to her that I discovered these amazing little text images.
I don’t understand any of the characters that she types out, but I don’t need to speak the language to understand how awesome (and slightly crazy) these built-in “smilies” are. They’re actually far more complicated and expressive than your basic “:)”, though, so maybe I’m not doing them justice.
However, if you’d like to try some of these for yourself, just add the Japanese – TenKey keyboard in Settings and tap the bottom-left most key (the one that looks like this: ^_^) and text away.
I like these smilies so much I just might key a few of them into TextExpander for regular usage.
