Engadget is reporting that AT&T will “Grandfather in” iPad customers who are currently on AT&T’s discontinued unlimited data plans, to their new iPad 2s if they so choose.
Here’s an excerpt:
If you were lucky enough to snag one of those coveted unlimited data plans with your original AT&T iPad, you won’t have to toss it when upgrading next week. The carrier has confirmed to us that those who currently have the aforementioned plan will be able to keep it on their account when upgrading to the iPad 2, which in turns gives you no reason whatsoever to turn down the opportunity.
When the original iPad launched last April, AT&T offered unlimited data for the 3G iPad at $29.99/month. Soon after AT&T announced that they were discontinuing the unlimited plans in favor of 2GB plans at $25/month. Customers who were already using the unlimited plans were allowed to keep them if they chose. That brings us to today, if you are still using an unlimited data plan, you will be allowed to keep it if you upgrade to an iPad 2.
Fair enough says I.
