Here we go again. MIC gadget has gotten their hands on what they claim is a 64GB iPhone 4 prototype. The device does appear to be legitimate and was leaked from a Foxconn factory in Shenzhen, China.
What makes this device especially convincing, is that it shares many of the same physical characteristics as the iPhone 4 prototype that was lost this time last year, and covered by Gizmodo. With that in mind, it suggests that this is a real prototype device, but little else. There are no guarantees that Apple plans to take such a device to market.
Undoubtedly, Apple has made numerous prototypes, and for one reason or another has not brought them to market. A 64GB iPhone model sounds reasonable now, considering the declining costs of flash storage over the past few years.
In short, save this one in the “possibly maybe” pile. Who knows, Apple may keep the same iPhone 4 form-factor for the “iPhone 5”, while offering a storage bump and presumably the new A5 chip. Or, as other reports have suggested, Apple may be planning a whole new design.
We just haven’t heard enough at this time. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
