A5 Processor Coming to Next-Generation iPhone

094729-apple_a5_chip.jpgMacRumors is reporting, to no one’s real surprise, that references are being discovered in the latest version of the iOS 4.3 SDK, which hint that the next-generation iPhone will utilize the new A5 processor. The same dual-core processor being used to power the iPad 2.

MacRumors points to several different tweets, which have found that the reference number for the A5 chip is “S5L8940”, which appears several times throughout the beta.

Consider this confirmation of what we already knew.

While we’re on the subject of hardware, I think this is the perfect time for me to mention that other reports are claiming that iPad 2 is indeed equipped with 512MB of RAM, just as was previously speculated.
