Major League Baseball has announced that, starting with today’s iOS 4.3 update, will offer archive and live streams of baseball games. The catch is that you mush be a MLB.tv subscriber, which can run from $20-$25 a month.
Not to be outdone, the National Basketball Association’s League Pass will also be offered, which offers free access to to scores and statistics with the ability to upgrade to watch archive and live games. Pricing starts at $64.95 to watch up to seven teams, and $99.95 to watch all teams.
Other minor tidbits worth noting in this update, is the fact that Dolby 5.1 surround sound is now being offered with Netflix streams, the onscreen keyboard has been redesigned, and there are new photo slideshow transition options.
Good update, especially for the sports lover in all of us. Although I think the price is still a little steep to replace a cable subscription, this proves that at least some in the television industry understand that the landscape is changing, and they will have to adjust accordingly. People just aren’t watching tv the way that they used to.
