Instapaper ($4.99) , one of the top two “read later” apps on the App Store (the other being, err, Read It Later), hit version 3.0 yesterday. One of the biggest changes to the app is its new social layer, which allows you to find other Instapaper-using pals and see what they have shared with the built-in “like” button (previously the Star button). I also appreciate the ability to share articles with other apps like Facebook and Evernote and Things.
Another interesting little addition is the “smart rotation lock”, which is basically a prompt to turn off in-app rotation if Instapaper thinks you tilted it sideways by accident. I haven’t found this feature terribly useful so far, but it has only been a day, so I won’t cross it off just yet.
Finally, users with truly epic queues of Instapaper articles should be glad to know that you can now search through your pile of words by title or content, making the “read later” experience a lot more convenient.
