Same path of cables works fine out of a macbook pro. Bit of a problem at conferences.

Thank you!

However i have tried many times to connect my ipad2 to my philips tv and to my projector. Sometimes i can see the mirroring , but most of the times i get the message on the screen “no signal”.

Does anyone know what is wrong?

I’ m a teacher too and used an ipad2 and a projector in class. Be aware that amongst the things mirrored is also the login-screen for the 4-digit code. Allthough it is quite beautiful to see the typed numbers highlighted, it is unbelievable stupid from the iOS4 to show the typed code on the projected screen also. All your audience will watch, what you type, unless you unplug your iPad, type in your code and reconnect it :-((

“Apps “mirror” by default (the external display will show the same content as your iPad 2 screen), unless designed to display different output…”

“Some apps do not mirror, but instead are designed to display video out on an external display…”

I posted a YouTube video of this working at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PhPLz_WF2c

I have a widescreen monitor mounted above my workbench and I typically use the VGA adapter to watch Netflix movies while I work. I waited in line with everyone else to get my iPad2, then yesterday I hooked it up and turned on the monitor before I had launched the Netflix app. To my astonishment, I was looking at my home screen! It mirrors EVERYTHING you see on the iPad screen. The only time it varies is when you launch a YouTube, Netflix or other video that normally would have played before. It flickers once or twice and then goes into the full-screen movie mode. Nice!!

Quick question. Did you try the adapter for use with iPads or is it just for iPad 2’s?

I can assure you that it does. Everything I did on my iPad’s screen — everything — mirrored to my monitor.

Unfortunately I am out of town tonight, but if I can get time with a projector this week, I will connect it up and grab a video.

I was told at the Apple store today that mirroring was not supported using the VGA connector. I took my projector into the store to try it and was told VGA mirroring was NOT supported so no need to try it.

Yep, I just connected a monitor and it worked right away.

You are correct about the audio.

Glad we could help!

Thanks, you’re the first real confirmation for me! I ordered it but I’m a teacher who wants to use it with my projector in class, and our projectors are only VGA not HDMI. That’s a great sigh of relief. Do you literally just hook it up and it mirrors? I’d imagine that if you wanted sound, you’d hook up an audio jack to the projector and to the headphone input of the ipad? Thanks.

-Johnny
