If you’re looking for a no-nonsense Bluetooth headset with a no-nonsense price to match, the ECO Sound Engineering V268 Wireless Bluetooth Headset may just be what you’re looking for.

Let’s face it – not everyone needs a $150 Bluetooth headset.   For many, a Bluetooth headset should do one thing and do it competently – connect to your phone and allow you to make and take calls through it.    The V268 is that headset, and at a price ($9.95) that makes it a compelling choice for the bargain-hunters amongst us.

THE BASICS

The V268 is a very lightweight (6.4g) headset with a wrap-around hook for your ear.   Unlike many other inexpensive headsets, the V268 never got uncomfortable, even after wearing it for several hours.    Pairing was a breeze – if the unit has never been paired before, it powers up in pairing mode automatically – and the unit maintained a solid, reliable connection with both the iPhone 4 and 3GS that we tested it with.   For such an inexpensive unit, the build quality is very good – on par with what I would normally consider a “cheap” headset of $30-40 or so.   Operation is achieved primarily through the button on the outside of the unit, which accepts and hangs up calls in addition to acting as the power switch, and volume buttons on the back end are easy to find and use.    All of the buttons have very positive feedback, and, like the rest of the unit, feel sturdy.

USING THE V268

The V268’s audio quality was good.  Not quite as good as my Jawbone’s, but still perfectly acceptable.   Callers could tell that I was on a different headset, but there were no complaints about the audio quality at all.    A short press on the phone button (until a tone was heard) activated Voice Control on the iPhone – a nice touch.

Battery life is quoted at 100 hours of standby and 4.5 hours of talk time.  While we were not able to fully test this claim, we never did run out of battery during our testing, and we used it quite a bit without recharging.

CONCLUSION

The V268 is a solid headset for a spectacular price, and easy to use to boot.   If you are in the market for an inexpensive Bluetooth headset, you’ll definitely want the V268 at the top of your shopping list.
