Fortune is reporting on the claims of several different research analysts in regards to the launch weekend of the iPad 2. Most of the estimates float between 500,000 to 1 million units sold over the past three days.
Needless to say, supplies of the iPad 2 are thin. Apple is restocking their stores on a daily basis, however their online store is currently reporting a 3-4 week ship period. Other retails outlets Apple is utilizing, are also sold out of the device.
Apple, as usual, has remained quiet about the actual sales numbers of the iPad 2. That said, The Loop (they do great work) contacted Apple and was told that sales were “amazing.”
“Demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing,” Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller, told The Loop. “We are working hard to get iPad 2 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible.”
So demand is high, and supplies are as tight as one might expect. If I had to wager, Apple will announce their sales figures for the weekend either today or tomorrow. When something sells out like this, Apple likes to brag.
