Review: Due for iPhone

Hey, Due app, do I have to get anything done today?

Yes, you due.

Oh, okay. But maybe I’ll just get it done later…I’m kinda busy sitting on the couch and napping right now.

Alright, I’ll just ring incessantly until you come to terms with what you have to due.

Due is an app that I had watched for (literally) months before actually purchasing. I loved the look of the whole thing from day one, but having already reviewed upwards of ten thousand task-related apps, I was hesitant to pull the trigger on yet another one.

Sure, Due is a very (very) handsome little app, but due I really need it?

Fortunately, Due has turned out to be one of the best $3 I’ve ever spent on the App Store (much to the chagrin of my lazier couch potato-ey side). I view it as less of a task manager and more of a mega version of the default Clock app, with alarms and timers that do a much better job of bugging you until you do what you need to do. Timers work much like they do in the Clock app, except for the fact that you can set as many of them as you want. Reminders (alarms) are a little different, since they also have check boxes attached to them, which immediately turns any old alarm into a task. There’s a pretty big mental difference between a simple reminder that you can dismiss, and a reminder that asks you to check something off.

One of the best things Due has to offer are its secondary alarms for reminders and timers. These alarms will ring every single minute until you go into the app and shut them off. It’s the digital equivalent of putting your alarm clock across the room, and it has worked wonders for me over the past few weeks. The cat is still alive and well fed (Meow!), my grades are actually alright (C-), and I even remembered to wear pants today (Zip!).

I’ve found that Due fits beautifully into the system I already have going with Calvetica (for calendar appointments) and TeuxDeux (for things I want to get done), and it has almost completely replaced the default Clock app on my iPhone.

I’ll still enter things like dentist appointments and major tests into Calvetica, and I still enter iSource review items and homework assignments in TeuxDeux, but Due fits beautifully into the “set it and forget it” niche of tasks. It has saved me billions in sticky notes and has freed my hands and forearms from the pen-scribbled reminders of yore, and it’s only $2.99 on the App Store…hint hint, nudge nudge…

Due was purchased by iSource for review. For further information regarding our site’s review policies, please see the “About” page.
