Apple Prepping Fix for Apple TV Flickering Issue

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple is aware of, and is preparing a fix for flickering issues experienced by some Apple TV customers after last week’s 4.2 update.
Here’s an excerpt:

An Apple support representative has confirmed that Apple is aware of the issues caused by the latest update to the Apple TV, software version 4.2, AppleInsider has learned. The Cupertino, Calif., company is said to be working on a fix that will address the screen flickering problems for a small number of users.

No, that’s not a typo. Apple TV is a point behind the rest of the iOS releases. While say, your iPod touch is running iOS 4.3, your Apple TV is running iOS 4.2, which is the build.

Anyway, the problem seems to be occurring when some television sets convert Apple TV’s 720p output to 1080i. The problem itself is being described as flickering and flashing, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference if the Apple TV is connected directly with a HDMI cable or a HDMI to DVI adapter.
