AppleInsider is reporting that Apple retails stores are adjusting their inventory management for the iPad 2. Instead of putting the device on sale as soon as shipments arrive at the store, they are withholding them until the next business day.
A person familiar with Apple’s retail operations informed AppleInsider this week that the new shipment of iPad 2 stock sold by some stores on Tuesday was actually delivered on Monday. Apple is said to have elected to hold the inventory for a next-day sale to grant its inventory control specialists the time to “calmly and accurately” process new shipments.
First, this gives customers an idea when their local Apple retail store will have a new shipment. Secondly, it gives employees a moment to catch their breath, and get the iPad 2’s in the system and then on the sales floor.
Sounds fair to me. Besides, some Apple stores have reportedly been opening early to accommodate the lines, and get them out of the way, so regular non-iPad buying customers can get in and out of the store more easily.
