Report Claims NFC Still Coming to Next-Gen iPhone

Elizabeth Woyke of Forbes (via MacRumors), is claiming that the next-generation iPhone will have Near Field Communication (NFC) built-in. This is of course, in direct contradiction to a recent report that claimed that the inclusion of NFC had been delayed until 2012.

Woyke’s gets fishy when he sites a second-hand source in the NFC industry.
Here’s an excerpt:

From what I hear, it is possible the iPhone 5 will include NFC. An entrepreneur who is working on a top-secret NFC product told me today that he believes the iPhone 5 will have NFC and cited a friend who works at Apple as a reliable source for the information.

Reportedly, NFC manufacturing companies are also gearing up for Apple to introduce the inclusion of this technology in their next iPhone, which of course is expected to be released sometime this summer.

Undoubtedly, Apple is working on this, but, at least to my mind, the technology isn’t deployed enough, and thus their isn’t reason enough, for Apple to include it in their devices at added expense. Maybe NFC will be more widespread by this time next year. In short, I wouldn’t expect NFC in this upcoming iPhone refresh.
