If I had any doubts about my upcoming purchase, Andy Ihnatko’s review of the iPad 2 in the Chicago Sun Times has banished them. This isn’t a technical review of a device, but a rich story about Ihnatko’s time with the newest tablet, which paints such a vivid picture of what it’s like to use it that I’m no longer worried about whether or not I’ll like Smart Covers or what I’ll do with the iPad once I have it. Reading his 6000-word review felt like sitting down with a trusted friend in an “oak-paneled room where you can sink into a leather club chair with a brandy and a cigar” and having him talk me through a $500 decision.
I’ll pass on the cigar for now, Mr. Ihnatko, but thanks for the review! This Friday can’t come soon enough.
[Edit: I can’t believe I forgot to add this, but Ihnatko also created an awesome little cover of the song “Hard Times” using Garageband on the iPad 2. Check it out on his posterous.]
