Taskpaper for Mac is 50% off today

Taskpaper is a minimal plain-text based task manager with clients for the iPhone and Mac OS X. I reviewed the initial release of the  $9.99 iPhone app a while back and thought it was a really cool premise, but found the syncing with the $30 desktop app — which is quite similar in functionality — a little lackluster because Taskpaper uses developer Jesse Grosjean’s own SimpleText.ws syncing service. Syncing with SimpleText worked well enough, but wasn’t nearly as smooth as the experiences that Evernote, Simplenote, and Dropbox provide.

So why am I posting about a 50% sale on the Mac app today? I’ve been following @jessegrosjean on Twitter for a while now and so I’ve read, on a couple of occasions, that he’s planning on moving WriteRoom and Taskpaper syncing to Dropbox, which should work a lot better than SimpleText (and require one less app to be loaded in your menu bar).

So if the only thing holding you back from using Taskpaper have been price and the syncing service, you might use this 50% sale to secure a $15 copy of the app in case Dropbox syncing does arrive soon. The only warning I’d issue is that the sale is through a site called BitsDuJour, which seems to require you create a login or sign up for a newsletter before you can get to the good stuff.

It is official, though, since the link was posted by the developer of Taskpaper himself.
