Report Claims That Apple May Pay More for Touch Panels to Ensure Constant Supply

Screen shot 2011-03-11 at 2.02.57 AM.pngDigiTimes is reporting that Apple may be preparing to offer more money for touch panels, in an effort to keep an uninterrupted supply of components coming in for the manufacture of iOS devices. This move seems to be a reaction to the Earthquake in Japan, which could potentially disrupt the touch panel market. At any rate, Apple may be turning to the Taiwanese manufactuers to pick up the slack.

With Apple’s capacity, It is a reasonable strategy from Apple to allow suppliers to hike quotes, and it will be a great help to the overall supply chain, even just for the short term, but will increase pressure to other vendors for tablet PCs and smartphone, touch panel makers believed.

Apple reportedly still has several weeks’ worth of component supplies at their disposal, but Apple also has a tendency (thanks to COO Tim Cook) to keep things tight, in an attempt to avoid overhead costs. So, a disruption in the market, could rattle it’s way up the supply chain, and cause problems in the not too distant future.
